Abstract
A hydrophilic silicone contact lens is produced by: (a) casting a silicone resin monomer into a mould, (b) heading the monomer to polymerise it, (c) forming the obtd. blank into a lens and (d) subjecting the surface of the lens to a low temp. gas plasma to impart hydrophilic props. to the surface. In an alternative process a further step (e) is included comprising forming a hydrophilic resin film on the gas plasma treated surface. The lens has improved flexibility, hydrophilicity and adaptability to the eye.
