Abstract
A process of jointing of >=2 solid elements, e.g. of glass, involves inserting, in the space between them, mono- or bi-component organosilicic compsns. which harden from ambient temp. into elastomers. The organosilicic compsns. are prepd. by mixing (a) alpha-omega-di(hydroxy)diorgano-polysiloxane oils of viscosity 5000-500000 cP at 25 degrees C; (b) cross-linking agents; (c) mineral fillers; (d) cross-linking catalysts; and (e) 10-80 parts (per 100 parts component (a)) of liq. polybutylenes of Mn value 800-1500 pref. 850-1350, used to reduce the permeability to gases and vapours. The polybutylenes are formed by polymerisation of 4C olefin mixts. contg. >=65% isobutenes. The elastomeric joints are used e.g. for windows and as sealing joints for containers. The organosilicic compsn. gives elastomers which combine good mechanical properties with low permeability to gases and vapours.
