Abstract

Portland cement clinker is obtd. by grinding limestone-, clay- and iron-contg. components to give a mixt. which is homogenised, granulated, decarbonised at 800-1000 degrees C and fired. During either the grinding or homogenising steps dust sublimate, a waste product from Ti prodn. in an amt. of 0.5-6% of the total wt. of mixt., is added and fired at 1200-1350 degrees C. If the addn. is made to the homogenisation step then an aq. suspension of coke, a waste prod. from Ti-Mg prodn., is also added to the granulating step. The ratio of water to coke is 3-6:1 and the suspension comprises 10-14% of the total wt. of the mixt. Cement clinker produced is suitable for the prodn. of high strength cement. The clinker is obtd. with degree of decarbonisation and a low firing temp.
