Abstract

A light alloy wheel is fabricated by pressure casting a first part of the wheel, which part comprises the rim, the spokes and means for fixing this first part to a hub, the supply of metal being made through the centre of the wheel. The wheel is then removed, the casting vents and flash are removed from the wheel by stamping and the first part is secured to a second part constituting the wheel hub. The fabrication process avoids the necessity for the wheel to be machined to shape when as-cast and the first part of the wheel can be made of an alloy which is difficult to machine.
