Abstract

The device is used for removing dust from natural or artificial fibre surfaces by vacuum suction and has a housing connected to a suction device. Wheels and a rotary brush are also provided. To neutralise any electrostatic charge on the dust or surface before and after brushing to facilitate dust pick-up, a source of positive and negative ions is provided in the housing. The source comprises a corona electrode bar (1) provided with a number of points (14) which project through a dielectric sleeve (21) covering the bar. The bar is surrounded by a cylindrical receptor electrode spaced from the bar and provided with holes (220) opposite the bar points. An alternating voltage below discharge level is applied across the electrodes to generate ions by a 'corona' effect, the bar electrode having a very small radius of curvature in cross-section. The device may be used for record cleaning.

Description

The invention relates to dusting surfaces, whether it is a wall or a coating of an object of more or less large surface, in particular a textile coating made of material of natural or artificial origin.

Are known, in particular in the field of textiles, dust removal methods and apparatus using either mechanical actions (brushing, threshing), or the action of air, in particular in vacuum cleaners.

However, in many cases, for example that of carpets covering the floor, known devices are unable to remove charged dust adhering to the surface. Indeed, the plastics constituting the carpets take electrostatic charges by friction (triboelectric effect). These charges are variable with the atmosphere and strongly retain, by Coulomb force, certain types of particles, therefore significant quantities of dust.

The invention aims to improve the efficiency of a dedusting device by adding to the various mechanical means and to the action of air a process for neutralizing electric charges.

The apparatus according to the invention, of the type comprising dust removal means by the action of air is characterized in that it further comprises a source of positive and negative ions, comprising an electrode of the "corona" type and a counter-electrode immersed in air between which means are provided for establishing an alternating electrical voltage lower than the breakdown voltage and capable of producing the corona effect.

- la figure 1 est une coupe schématique d'une source d'ions utilisables dans le cadre de l'invention;
- les figures 2 et 3 représentent en perspective et en coupe une réalisation de la source d'ions;
The invention will be better understood, and other characteristics will appear, by means of the description which follows, and of the accompanying drawings, among which:
- Figure 1 is a schematic section of an ion source used in the context of the invention;
- Figures 2 and 3 show in perspective and in section an embodiment of the ion source;
- Figure 4 shows an example of apparatus according to the invention.

An ion source 10 (FIG. 1) comprises a filiform electrode 1, which is often called a "corona electrode" and a counter electrode 2 often called a "collection" electrode. The electrode 1 is filiform and the value of its diameter, therefore of its surface radius of curvature plays a role in the phenomenon of ionization of air by the corona effect. In the case of the invention, the counter electrode 2 is of cylindrical shape at least partially surrounding the electrode 1 and has an opening towards the outside to facilitate the dispersion of the ions. An alternating voltage generator 11 supplies electrodes 1 and 2 via connections 12 and 13.

The order of magnitude of the electrical voltage necessary to obtain the "corona" effect can vary from a few hundred to a few thousand volts depending on the shape of the electrode and the distance from the counter-electrode for dimensions of a few centimeters. the ion source.

In the embodiment shown in Figures 2 and 3, the electrode 1 is a metal bar armed with spikes 14 which are the real corona electrodes. This bar is partially embedded in a sleeve 21 of dielectric material whose breakdown voltage is greater than that of air. This sleeve has clearances 210 in the vicinity of the points 14.

In Figure 4, there is shown a suction head 40 which is a part of an apparatus according to the invention. This head includes suction and brushing means cooperating with an ion source 10 of the type described above. There is a shell 41 in which is mounted the ion source 10 and the generator 11. In addition, it is provided with a suction handle 45 connected to the body of the suction head. There is shown by way of example a head provided with bearings 42 and 43 and a rotating brush of cylindrical shape.

The operation of the device is as follows. The positive and negative ions created by the ion source and spreading in the head neutralize the dust charged from the surface to be cleaned. This dust is then vacuumed, either immediately or after the brush 44 has passed. The brush is actuated by the movement of the head on the surface to be cleaned. It may also be rotated by an electric motor, not shown.
