Abstract

The installation comprises a duct in the floor of the stable or byre, this being covered by floor slabs (C). The slabs provide a central slot and enclose a chain (A) passing over pulleys each end. The chain is driven by a motor and is level with the floor. At intervals, over a distance not exceeding half the chain length, are scrapers (H1,H2,H3). These pass along the surface of the slabs and remove manure and litter to a pile outside the building. To prevent accidents, a safety clutch is fitted to stall the mechanism if blocked.
