Abstract

The make-break switch stores itsstop and go commands as opposite directions of polarisation of a hard ferrite. The state of polarisation of the ferrite actuates a reed relay (3) which controls a low power circuit directly or drives a power switch for high power circuits. A permanent magnet (1) provides the magnetic field. The state of the switch may be changed either by moving supplementary magnets or by passing a current through a winding (4) or by heating the ferrite to the Curie Temperature. The design has the advantages that can be miniaturised, controlled remotely and contact broken rapidly.
