Abstract

A trunnion welded to a heavy element such as the pressure vessel of a nuclear reactor, for which it is to provide a bearing, is assembled so that it can slide in a swivel bearing. This can be adjusted in the metal support structure by centralising details which are detachable. For pref. the centralising details are a set of keys inserted between the periphery of the bearing and the metal structure. The trunnion and the opening in the bearing in which it is adjusted have a polygonal cross-section having two pairs of parallel sides in opposition horizontally and vertically, each pair of sides admitting a common key. Provides a more efficient support, ensuring resistance to outside forces such as acceleration, or various shocks in all directions which tend to cause damage.
