Abstract

Simultaneous colouring and fireproofing of materials of plant origin such as palm leaves, coconut fibres, etc. is effected by treating the materials with a single bath contg. an aq. soln. of brominated ammonium salts, a nonionic wetting agent, an aq. acrylic copolymer emulsion and one or more pigments, simply draining and then drying the material. The treated materials are used for decorative purposes. Compatibility between the pigments and the fireproofing agent allows the process to be effected in a single bath. No toxic solvent is used.
