Abstract

Headphone for use over a helmet comprises a moulded semi-rigid strap incorporating a metallic strip aerial and ending in a pair of hollow blocks, one of which contains a loudspeaker and the other of which contains a circuit block and power pack. Ancillary tabs or elastic straps are provided to anchor the headphone on to a conventional helmet. Suitable for providing semi-remote instruction to novice drivers, skiers, sailors, hang-glider pilots etc. Adaptable to various helmet sizes or shapes. Pref. the inner surfaces of the strap and blocks are covered or coated with a high friction or slightly adhesive material, for enhanced grip on a helmet body of e.g. ABS. The headphone may be a simple receiver or may also be fitted with a conventional or a throat microphone input/transmitter, pref. operating at low frequency. The strap and component holders may be moulded polyurethane and/or ABS, for lightness, flexibility and good impact absorption. Opt, the securing straps include strips of hooked pile fabric such as 'Velcro' (RTM).
