Abstract

A continuous centrifuge comprises a vessel in which rotates a conical basket provided with a screen and surrounded by a collector which recovers the solid phase. The solid particles are ejected from the basket into the vessel, over an edge provided at the end of larger dia. of the basket. Washing distributors allow the solid particles to be washed before their ejection. The centrifuge incorporates means of drawing out the vapours in the basket. Such centrifuges are used in the prodn. of sugars. To avoid breakage of the crystals against the wall of the vessel forming agglomerates, vessels of large dia. are used. The invention resolves the problem of ensuring sufficient sealing between the interior of the basket and the sugar chamber to prevent the passage of vapours bringing about the formation of agglomerates, partic. in the case where the vessel of the centrifuge is fixed rigidly on a frame while the basket is mounted on an elastic suspension.
