Abstract

Method of brazing joints between pieces of titanium and its alloys at about 700 degrees C comprising using a brazing alloy of Ag, Cu and Al, the compsn. of which falls inside the triangle defined as the ternary diagram between the points (A) Ag 91-Cu 2-Al7; (B) Ag 54-cu2-A144 and (C) Ag 54-Cu 39-Al 7. Pref. a gap of 20-70(50) mu is left between pieces of Ti to be buff jointed together. The brazed joint has a mechanical strength at least equal to that of brazed joints using Ag-Ga but have improved ductility. The brazing is effected at a temp. low enough not to affect the grain structure of parent Ti metal or alloy significantly, unlike prior art Ti alloy brazing metals which need 900 degrees C + and tend to cause grain growth around the joint.
