Abstract

The Al alloy contains 0.005-3.5 wt.% Ga and 0.1-1.0 wt.% Mg and is suitable for the cathodic protection of iron and steel in aq. salt solns. of low concn. ie, of 10 mg/l - satn., for example in distilled water, ground water and sea-water. The alloy has high electrochem. properties. The alloy is more economical than the known Al-Ga alloy which contains the costly alloying elements Bi and In. For the cathodic protection of underground structures, ships, floating oil platforms, steam and hot water boilers, also for pipelines of drinking water and hot water systems.
