Abstract

In a ring gap between the outer metal casing and the inner refractory lining of the furnace are vertical rows of cooling plates. The plates contain channels provided with common outlets and common inlets forming closed circuits for both natural and forced circulation of the coolant, which is esp. water which has been treated with chemicals. Some of the cooling plates contain additional cooling water channels with a common outlet leading to a vessel which is followed by a heat exchanger and a pump feeding water to a common inlet to the additional channels. The cooling plant also includes control valves and drum separators for sepg. steam from water. In an emergency, a relatively small amt. of water can be fed at high velocity through the additional channels, which are located e.g. round the furnace hearth.
