Abstract

The mechanism secures the end of a typewriter ribbon onto a spool during manufacture. As the ribbon is parted off, solid hooks (12') delivered by distributors (13) mounted on the coiling machines are inserted in it mechanically. The hooks are either of the expanding type, engaging inside the spool sidewalls (53'), or of the contracting type, fitting over the body of the ribbon (54) wound onto the spool. The distributor can be supplied from hoppers contg loose hooks correctly aligned, or by bard os hooks with weakened zones for easy parting off. Alternatively they can be made from strip shaped shortly before use by pressing, heating, cooling etc, forming them into semicircular elastic forks narrower than the ribbon.
