Abstract

The bellows are for connecting articulated carriages, e.g. in railways. They comprise folds, each made of rectangular channels (2) containing border strips cut from textile-covered rubber sheeting, and sewn together alternately along their outside and inside edges. The strips are rectangular, ang the long sides of the rectangles are vertical when the bellows are in use. The width of the vertical sides are uniform over the length of the side. This gives the bellows stiffness to prevent sagging below the horizontal position. The width of the short sides progressively reduces towards the mid point of the side to improve flexing in the horizontal plane.
