Abstract
Powdered lime contains a satd. 3-6C aliphatic carboxylic acid with 1-3 carboxyl gps. and hydroxy groups and/or an alkali salt and/or lactone of these acids. Acids having one carboxyl gp. have every other element of the chain occupied by a hydroxyl gp. Acids having 2 carboxyl gps. have half the remaining links occupied by a hydroxyl gp. while acids having 3 carboxyl gp. have one third of the remaining links occupied by a hydroxyl gp. Pref. gluconic acid (deriv.) is used. Used for mfr. of cellular concrete for use as heat insulation around metallurgical furnaces. Lime so treated requires less excess water for manipulation purposes.
