Abstract

A raising and lowering mechanism is used for the tone arm of a spiral groove video record player which assures a particularly gentle setting down or raising of the needle on the disc. The tone arm has one end pivoted to a supporting element, it carries a rest for the arm and also a moving component which can be moved between two settings. It contains a permanent magnet. The rest is controlled by the setting of the moving element so that in one of the settings the needle is raised clear of the record. A further component fixed to the supporting element carries a magnetic flux generator acting on the permanent magnet to effect a movement of the permanent magnet between its two settings.
