Abstract

The joint prosthesis has ball and socket parts, with the spherical part anchored in the bone by a metal shaft and both parts made of hard aluminium oxide, at least in the areas of reciprocal contact. The spherical part (1) is made completely of hard aluminium oxide and coupled to a shaft (2) of titanium or a titanium alloy by manufacturing a blind hole in the spherical part into which a titanium or titanium alloy insert (4) can be soldered with the end (6) of the shaft fastened to it so that any rotational or relative translational motion is impossible. Pref. the shaft side of the spherical part has a flat surface fitting flush with a flat butting edge on the insert (4) over a disc (5) of precious metal.
