Abstract

The hydraulic servo-assisted steering for a motor vehicle has a servo-motor supply of hydraulic fluid monitored by a valve system operated by a movable lever during a steering deflection and which has a reaction piston under servomotor pressure for providing sensitivity to the active steering force. A pressure limiting valve (14, 14') is connected to a reaction pressure chamber (16, 16') of the reaction piston (17, 17') and holds open the connection between the reaction pressure chamber and a control line (12, 12') to the servo motor (8) up to a pressure in the reaction pressure chamber which is sufficient for normal steering assistance. The pressure limiting valve closes this connection, however, when an arbitrarily fixed pressure limit is exceeded.
