Abstract

The purifier comprises a refrigerated condenser. It pref. takes the form of a vertical shell and tube heat exchanger with refrigerant liq., e.g. ethylene glycol at -50 degrees C, circulating in the shell, and a funnel mount beneath the tubes to collect condensate and return it to the vessel. The tube plate at the top of the heat exchanger should drain to an axial condensate return pipe which leads right through the exchanger and down the centre of the funnel discharge passage. The CO2 can be compressed and stored for industrial use. The condensates returned to the winemaking improve the bouquet and strength of the wine. The purifier is easily fitted to existing installations.
