Abstract

A process for removing radio-active wastes from a nuclear power station consists of filling them into containers, adding a binder capable of solidifying them and transporting the containers with the solidified wastes, immediately to the place where they are finally deposited. The containers in or near the station are handled, and the binder is added, under a shield. A plant for carrying out the process incorporates containers, each with a cover in which is an agitator, an outlet for gases and an inlet for binder, a vent gas purificn. system and a unit for prepg. and adding the binder. The many costly and dangerous operations performed at present are no longer necessary. The risk to the environment is considerably reduced. Filling and binder addn. can be carried out so that no radioactive substances can escape from the containers. The vol. of integrated wastes resulting from the radioactive wastes and the binder is considerably reduced.
