Abstract
A strip of plastic sheet and one or more strips of paper (2, 4) are wound in a spiral pattern onto a rotary mandrel (16), and the side of the paper adjacent to the plastic sheet is coated with plastic material becoming adhesive on heating. The paper strip is passed along a heat source in order to produce this effect, and the plastic is applied to the paper so that one of its edges protrudes past the edge of the latter for a constant distance. The laminated strip formed by paper and plastic is fed onto the mandrel so that the plastic bears against the surface of the latter, and the protruding edge of the plastic is coated with melted glue on the side away from the mandrel. The angle at which the laminated strip is wound onto the mandrel is such that this protruding edge is brought into contact with the other edge of the next turn of the plastic.
