Abstract

The roller has a central coil inducing magnetic fields in the liquid metal portion of a product obtained by continuous casting, having an external rotary casing containing the coil. The casing is kept in contact with the wall of the cast product. The casing is of stainless steel contg. 0.05% C, 15% Cr, 26% Ni, 1.2% Mo and 1.8% Ti, also V, Al, and B addns. It is subjected to a hardening process involving heat treatment so as to give an elastic limit at 0.2% EO. 2 of >=65 hectobars.
