Abstract

The apparatus reduces fractures or lengthwise cracks in bones by external compression, having one or more pairs of gripping pads (3, 4) each formed by a stem ending in a support face (5, 6) coming in contact with the surface of the bone (2). External devices (9, 12) maintain the pads in line with their support faces on opposite sides, so as to press the bone at right angles to the plane of the fracture to be reduced. Each support face can be curved, with an irregular surface, and the pads can be held in place by jaws clamped together. Each pad can have a tapped shank screwing into the tapped hole in the respective jaw.
