Abstract

An appts. for supporting and spacing nuclear fuel elements in a water-water reactor comprises a vessel with a perforated bottom, the perforations serving the inlet of the water coolant into the vessel to flow around the elements. The supports for the fuel elements consist of vertical tubes, one tube being located beneath each fuel element; lateral openings in these tubes permit passage of the water coolant to the fuel elements; the upper ends of the tubes are widened out, are in intimate contact with their neighbours and are surrounded by an annular girdle so that they are all bound together to form a spacing grid for the fuel elements. Since there is no separate spacer grid to be mfd., construction is simplified and made more economic. The arrangement is highly reliable in operation.
