Abstract

Concentric sleeves for enclosing buried wooden posts at ground level comprise a bandage of absorbant material enclosed by an impermable bandage with permanent or concealed opening above ground level via which the level of liquid wood preservative contained in the absorbant bandage may be topped up. The bandage is pref. sheet or strip material wound round the post once or as a series of overlapping helical turns. The absorbant layer is pref. of cloth or of a permeable rot-proof cellular plastic material. The outer bandage is pref. a metal foil or impermeable film, e.g. bitumen coated polyethylene. Less frequent attention is required than for exposed or inaccessible wet bandages.
