Abstract

A cleaner is used for bare overhead cables esp. high tension types where pollution of the cable surface can cause losses and corona discharge. The cleaning mechanism only requires an extendable platform for fitting and removal, movement along the cable length being effected by manual or motorised hauling on a line attached to the cleaner. The cleaner consists of a lockable cylinder (2, 3) which can be split lengthways to fit over the cable and has parallel lines of brushes pointing inward onto the cable. A pulley (43, 44) at each end positions the cylinder.
