Abstract

Machine for extracting cellulosic or similar matter from a larg amt. of other substances such as rags, plastic articles, light metals wood, etc., includes a cylindrical drum positioned horizontally or inclined slightly to the horizontal, rotating slowly. Inside the drum, parallel to its axis or coaxial with it, and turning rapidly in the opposite direction, is a rotor, which may be cylindrical or conical in outline with teeth for tearing the matter passing through, secured to its barrel, extending farther out from the centre line of the rotor progressively towards the circumference of the drum in the direction of motion of the rubbish towards the outlet. At the outlet, an adjustable baffle plate holds back the rubbish until it banks up sufficiently to overflow, and intensifies the grinding action on the matter. Machine is used for processing lighter grades of household rubbish and reduce the amt. of contamination in it, partic. material suitable for paper and board mfr.
