Abstract
A fuel, pref. (hydro)carbon, is burnt with O and the combustion gases, (partly) of CO2 and H2O, are brought into intimate contact with the Fe bath, of which the C content is 0.10%max. The fuel and O may be led through >=1 nozzle under the bath surface in the refining vessel or introduced into the melt from above by high pulses. The process introduces heat to the melt in a conventional refining vessel with higher combustion efficiency than is predicted from equilibrium conditions.
