Abstract

Slow-breaking cationic bitumen emulsions are prepd. using an emulsifier comprising >=1 imidazoline deriv. of formula (I), at least as the major component: (where R is an opt. unsatd. 8-22C hydrocarbon radical; and x = 3-6). The improvement comprises using (I) in which the x = 3 fraction makes up =20% of the total. The emulsions can be used for making cold-coated dense aggregates or slurry seal compsns. The emulsifiers are effective when used with bitumens having a low natural acidity (0.5 mg KOH/g).
