Abstract
Uranium oxide-antimony oxide compsns. of formula USb3-xAxO9-10 are claimed in which A is a Gp.IVB element and x = 0.25-1.50, esp. 0.5-1.50. Pref. A is Ti, Zr or Hf. The prods. are useful as oxidn. catalysts and esp. as ammonoxidation catalysts for the conversion of propylene into acrylonitrile in the presence of ammonia and an oxygen-contg. gas. Catalysts are obtd by heating together a mixt. of oxides of U, Sb and the Gp.IVB element, or cpds. which decompose to form these oxides on heating, in an atomic ratio Sb:U of 1.35:1 to 2.75:1, an atomic ratio Gp.IVB element:U of 0.25:1 to 1.65:1 and an atomic ratio Sb + Gp.IVB element:U of 3.5:1-2.5:1, esp. 3:1. Pref. the mixt. is heated for 15 mins. -24 hrs. at 850 degrees C esp. 1-18 hrs. at 875-1000 degrees C.
