Abstract

Appts. for a floating roof for a reservoir holding volatile products allows the formation of a uniform and reversible dome which improves the functioning and efficiency of the roof. The appts. comprises a man-hole covered by a rubber membrane and a siphon. The membrane allows the liq. to breathe when the roof is in its normal position but if the roof should become flooded and begin to sink the manhole allows the liq. to pass through, thus avoiding damage which might otherwise occur because of increased fluid presure on the roof. When the tank is emptied to recover the roof the membrane allows a reverse flow through it to facilitate the emptying and the siphon drains off any fluid remaining on the roof. Distortion of the roof is avoided so that it can be used again when the tank is next filled.
