Abstract

Mixing and polymerisation reactor with continuous operation, comprises a cylindrical container with inlets and outlets for the continuously passing reactants, and >=1 rotary shafts arranged along the longitudinal axis of the reactor. Conveying elements are mounted along sections of the shaft(s); adjacent sections having elements of opposite screw pitch causing the charge to flow in sectionally localised "cells" of currents and counter-currents. High mixing efficiency. Suitable for working-up of viscous substances, better than so-called "filmtruders" and "cascade reactors" which allow close control of desired dwell time and have narrow dwell time spectrum but are less adapted for viscous reactants.
