Abstract
Carboxylic acids of formula (I) are new: (where R1, R2 = H, CH3O, C2H5O or if R1 and R2 are ortho to one another they may form a homocyclic ring; X = -CO- or -CH2-; Y = 2-3C (un)satd. hydrocarbon gp. which may be substd. by CH3- or C2H5 gps.: two of these gps. together with at least two C atoms from the hydrocarbon gp. may form a satd. homocyclic ring which may be substd. with one or more alkyl gps. Addn. salts of (I) with physiologically acceptable acids are also new. (Cpds. (I) include geometrical isomers, optical isomers and racemates). Cpds. (I) have appetite suppressant props. and so can be used to treat excess bodily weight. Single doses are 0.100-0.500 pref. 0.250 g. the daily dose being 0.200-1 g. given orally in the form of capsules, tablets or drinkable ampoules. Cpds. (I) have a very low toxicity.
