Abstract

Button-type electrochemical cell comprises a metallic positive pan contg. the positive active mass, a metallic negative pan contg. the negative active mass, a separator interposed between the free surfaces of the active masses, an electrolyte impregnated in the separator and active masses, and an insulating casing serving to unite the two pans while isolating them electrically. The casing comprises a first part of relatively rigid plastics material enclosing the periphery of the bases of the pans and their sides, and a second part of elastomer interposed between the rims of the pans. Pref. the pans are of Pb or Pb-Ca alloy, in the charged state the positive active mass comprises mainly PbO2 and the negative active mass Pb, and the electrolyte is a soln. of H2SO4 opt. with added phosphoric acid. The separator is pref. a glass fibre felt. The casing arrangement provides improved sealing.
