Abstract
7-(o-Aminomethylphenylacetamido)-3-(1-sulphomethyl-tetrazol-5-ylt- hiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid (I) and its pharmaceutically acceptable salts, salts and hydrates are new. (I) has excellent antibacterial activity by parenteral admin. against Gram +ve and -ve organisms. ED50 (mouse) is 0.26 mg./kg. against E.coli SKF 12140 and 0.28 mg./kg. against K.pneumoniae SKF 4200 by subcutaneous admin., c.f. 4.4 and 6.25 mg./kg. resp. for cephazoline. High serum levels and half-life are obtd.
