Abstract

Procédé perfectionné de préparation de l'acide téréphtalique par oxydation du p-xylène à l'aide d'oxygène moléculaire dans l'acide acétique servant de solvant en présence d'un système catalyseur contenant du cobalt, du manganèse et du brome. On sépare l'acide téréphtalique solide de la dispersion formée dans la réaction, on recueille les liqueurs-mères et on les distille de manière à récupérer une partie au moins de l'acétate de méthyle qu'elles contiennent et qu'on recycle dans le réacteur. L'augmentation de la concentration en acétate de méthyle dans le système de réaction provoque une inhibition de la conversion de l'acide acétique en acétate de méthyle et par conséquent une diminution des pertes en acide acétique
