Abstract

Skins and hides are dried in a current of air in a closed circuit the air is passed successively over a cooling coil to remove moisture and then over a heater. The dryer consists of a chamber divided into two by a horizontal perforated wall. The chamber has a perforated false ceiling and a false floor which is provided with orifices and regulating shutters. The skins are introduced through the doors and hung on the rods. The cooling system which contains a fan circulates the air, via the pipe to the space above the ceiling. It is collected from below the false floor and a continuous circulation is maintained. A resistance heater, controlled by a thermostat only comes into operation when the temp. falls below 25 degrees C it is used to assist heating by the condensers in the refrigerating unit. The dryer can be controlled automatically to bring the skins without handling to the proper conditions for stretching or storage.
