Abstract

A duct (12) at the side of a room has an internal partition (13) dividing it into two sections. A radiator (3) served by hot water is placed in the first section (15) and room air recirculates over it. A radiator (4) in the second section (14) is fed with the return water of the first radiator (3) and has fresh air from outside (5) passing over it to be preheated before ventilating the room. There is a connection (17) between the two sections with a damper (19) in it. This damper is linked to a damper (18) in the fresh air passage (14). As the outside temp. falls the two dampers operate together to reduce the proportion of fresh air passing over the lower temp. radiator.
