Abstract

Satd. cross linkable binders for use in powder coating compsns. giving cross linked textured, non-glossy coatings, comprise (a) (i) a satd cross linkable polyester or epoxy resin in association with a cross linking agent with acid anhydride or acid functions, or (ii) a satd. cross linkable polyester associated with a cross linking agent with masked isocyanate functions, where the resin cross linker system is made by mixing the components in the molten state and the curing agent is present in nearly equals stoichiometric amt. on the functional gps. in the resin; and (b) metal carboxylates with a valency of >=2. The binders give powder coatings with a non-glossy, textured surface without using e.g. coarse fillers of cellulose derivs. as additives. The films have excellent resistance to solvents, UV, weathering, stamping, and impact coupled with excellent adhesion to the substrate.
