Abstract

Conversion of one or more liquid or solid substances into a solid adsorbate on one or more adsorbents is claimed in which a non-solvent cpd. for the substance is added to a suspension or soln. of the adsorbent in a solvent contg. the substance to be adsorbed, the solvent being miscible with the non-solvent cpd. Used esp. for converting liquid active principles or excipients into substantially homogeneous solids which may be converted into conventionally solid pharmaceutical compsns., e.g. by granulation, tabletting, coating, etc. Typically, vitamins A and D2 were dissolved in water and carboxymethylcellulose was added. The suspension was stirred until quasi-homogeneous and spray-dried using N2 to give a fine powder with quantitative recovery of vitamins.
