Abstract

Device for breaking material such as filter cake moving in bulk along a chain conveyor, consists of a square shaft placed above and across the conveyor on which are solidly fixed toothed wheels which, by meshing in with the chain of the conveyor turn the shaft. The shaft also carries star-shaped cutter which have blades to divide the material. The device includes a means of controlling the height of the layer of material passing the divider and a means of removing material caught around the blades. The apparatus is partic. useful for dividing filter cakes from filter presses, or for other materials of similar consistency. It may, also be used in conjunction with conveyors to a silo, or at the point of transfer between two conveyors. It can also be used to divide any bulk material which tends to agglomerate.
