Abstract

The reciprocating engine has an inner cylinder (2) and an outer cylinder (5) separated by an annular space (6) which forms a passage-way to the lower inlet valve (7). Fluid enters through the inlet (13) in the valve housing (11) and flows through the hole (19) to reach the annulus (6) and inlet (7) to force the piston (1) upwards. Fluids in the upper part of the cylinder (2) flows out through holes (13, 16, 15). as the piston (1) approaches the end of its stroke the rod (30) is pushed upwards and pushes the slide valve (20) upwards. This movement of the slide valve (20) shuts off the hole (19) from the incoming fluid and connects to the exhaust port (15). The incoming fluid flows through the holes (16, 18) and reverses the piston movement.
