Abstract

The crucible and its backing plate are contained in an air-tight chamber connected to a vacuum pump and, to a reservoir of inert gas which fills the air-tight chamber during melting and centrifuging. The drive shaft of the centrifuge fluid-tightly passes through the bottom of the chamber.
