Abstract
Prodn. of an extract for improving the ageing of spirts comprises treating oak shaving or finely divided oak to three successive extractions in aq. alcoholic solns. The first extraction is with a 30-50 degrees GL soln. and the third in a 10-30 degrees GL soln. The extract is dried and formed into a powder. The prod. is used to age spirts e.g. brandy. The use of extract considerably shortens the ageing process.
