Abstract

Wood preservatives contain (a) a mixt. of >=3 fungicides with insect-repellant properties, opt. together with >=1 additional insecticide when a curative effect is required and (b) at least one specific. fixer appropriate ot the combination of fungicides(and opt. insecticides) used. Suitable fixers comprise resins based on fish oils, soya oil, wood oils, cottonseed oil and certain unsatd. mineral oils, and rosin esters obtained by boiling epoxidised oils with nonhydrogenated rosin. The preservatives are stated to have a wider range of efficacy than known similar products. They can be used internally or externally. An typical preservative contains pentachlorophenol, tributyltin benzoate, N-trichloromethyl-thio-phthalimide as fungicides, gamma-hexamchlorocyclohexane an insecticide, and rosin modified with soya oil as fixer.
