Abstract

The appts. comprises a vessel in the shape of a truncated cone in which is placed a vertical screw surrounded by a sleeve. The vessel is covered at the top by a hood. The screw rotates, thus transferring material from the bottom to the top. On reaching the top it falls back into the mass of material within the vessel which is itself being mixed by a mixer having two arms on a base, following basically the contours of the inside of the vessel. The dimensional ratio between the mixing device and the vessel satisfy very efficient mixing criteria. The permanent scraping of the interior surfaces of the vessel and the provision of a scraper for the outside of the sleeve around the screw prevent the build-up of a layer of the product on those surfaces which would impede the efficient working of the appts. the simplicity of the apparatus allows easy dismantling for any work which may become necessary.
