Abstract

A linear ball bearing is fitted inside a sleeve and runs on a shaft. The ball (3) roll in slots (5) formed in bars (8) of U-shaped cross-section with a groove (11) formed on the undersurface of the bridge (8) of the U. The bars (8) and balls (3) are fitted in a plastic cage (7) consisting of end rings joined by longitudinal bars. The load from the shaft is transmitted through the balls (3) to the bridge (8) and then through the legs of the U section to the outer sleeve. The dimensions of the slot (5) ensure that there is a clearance between the balls (3) and sleeve during the return travel of the balls. The bearing can be adapted to use rollers instead of balls.
