Abstract

A process for surface treating Zn (alloy) comprises pretreating the surface with an aq. soln. contg. as the major constituent, a metal ion chosen from Fe, Ni, Co, Cr, Sb. Ti and Mn and then treating the surface with an aq. soln. of an acidic phosphate or an alkali metal acidic phosphate. The coating produced shows good corrosion resistance and adheres well to paints. Zn alloys or Zn-plated metals may be protected by this process.
